Ticklefish Tots

I'm Cindy, WAHM to 4 gorgeous kids, self confessed cloth addict and enabler, and founder / owner / operator of Ticklefish Tots. I converted to cloth shortly after my youngest was born, as he suffered (and still does) from eczema, which disposables simply exacerbated. After realising and researching the cost effectiveness and environmental advantages of cloth, I also converted my then 2 year old.

I was very excited when I received my first lot of fluffy mail, and my second, and my third .... and so on! But it did disappoint me to see that, out of the many different brands of MCN, not alot were actually made in Australia, and I really wanted to make a difference. I also discovered some "fit" issues with both of my boys - I wanted longer tabs, so that they'd not only get more wear out of each nappy, but also to accommodate either more snaps, or more velcro, to alleviate the dreaded "wing droop"! And as they were both tummy sleepers, I wanted a higher rise so that waking after a nap wouldn't mean a whole new change of clothes due to the seeping wetness up their fronts!

So, within a matter of weeks had designed my own MCN which not only suited the needs of my children, but were also totally handmade in Australia by me!

I started Ticklefish Tots in May 2009, after almost a year of designing, researching, re-designing and testing my nappies. I have also recently started making kids pyjamas, woollen shortie soakers, have designed a wetbag which is yet to come into production, and am about to embark on a spring / summer line! And I love nothing better but supporting other Aussie WAHM's!

The Toy Bug

The Toy Bug was born after our son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. After accepting that we had a long road ahead of us and taking our son to therapies every week, I decided to help with his therapy at home. So I spent countless hours looking for the toys his therapists were using and toys that would keep his attention and help with his development.

On sourcing some great products - I wanted to share these wonderful toys with other parents and carers so I decided to go into business online and bring our wonderful range of educational and fun toys into the lives of children, helping them to learn as they play and create many cherished childhood memories.

Easter scams have become part of the ritual of using holidays and global / domestic events to trick Australians. Past experience shows that scammers will exploit people’s holiday cheer and generosity to con them out of their hard earned money.

Top 3 scams to lookout for:

1. Fundraising activities

Easter is often a time for charitable fundraising, especially for children’s charities. Scammers often pretend to work for well known and well regarded charity organisations. Scammers may approach people in the street, by knocking on the door, telephoning or sending spam emails.

2. Malicious software and viruses

Scammers use bogus emails designed to spread malicious software and viruses onto your computer. Usually this scam involves using catchy titles and headings to entice you to open the email, such as “your friend has sent you an Easter card”.

3. Bogus holiday and accommodation scams

Easter is a time where many families take vacations. The scammer commonly offers heavily discounted holidays and/or accommodation rates through unsolicited emails and/or telephone calls. This scam usually involves full or significant upfront payments commonly through cash money wire (which is untraceable).

Protect yourself

Charity scams:

• If in doubt, find the name of the charity yourself and donate directly to them.

• Don’t rely on any phone number or website address given by the person who first called, visited or emailed you because they could be impersonating a legitimate charity. Instead find the contact details of the charity through an internet search.

• Never give out your personal or credit card or online account details unless you made the phone call.

• If a collector makes a face-to-face approach, ask to see identification.

Malicious software and viruses:

• Don’t open up any emails, including links and attachments, if you don’t recognise the email address or the sender’s name.

• Avoid questionable websites. Some may automatically download malicious software on your computer.

• Keep your computer protected with the latest anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and remember to use a good firewall.

• If you think your computer has been infected, you may need to have the computer checked.

Bogus holiday and accommodation scams:

• If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is!

• Contact the accommodation provider to confirm the availability of the accommodation.

• If you receive an unsolicited call, never provide your credit card details and other personal information. Instead, get the caller’s details and say you will call them back after you have checked the offer.

We search out the lesser-known types of records that can broaden and deepen your knowledge of your ancestors – who they were, what they did, and what was important to them.

 

If you are looking for more than names and dates then these are the records you need.

New South Wales The first white colonists to arrive were convicts and their keepers, beginning with the First Fleet in 1788 with 759 male and female convicts under Governor Phillip.

 

Convict records were kept from the beginning as part of the administration of the new colony, especially when it became necessary to distinguish between convict and free persons with the arrival of free immigrants and the completion of sentences of convicts.

 

The Colonial Secretary was responsible for the day-to-day running of the early Colonial government. The correspondence of the Colonial Secretary contains letters or references concerning many residents in the Colony, convict and free, such as requests for grants of land and convict indulgences.

 

Immigration of free persons became necessary to make the new colony viable. Records are scant in the early period of the Colony before 1828 and become increasingly detailed as the Government got involved in luring new colonists through various bounty schemes.

 

Land and property and was a big issue from the earliest days of free settlement – it was the prospect of good farming and grazing land that brought so many out here. Land grant registers were kept from 1792 onwards and although the rules changed frequently the hunger for land did not.

 

Voting rights were initially tied to land ownership or occupation, and although some electoral rolls are available from 1842 most do not start until 1859. With Federation in 1901 electors were required to vote in State and Federal elections, and women were given the vote.

 

Death duties have been payable on a consistent basis since 1880 until relatively recently, following the English model. A system was devised where probate could not be granted until the death duty was paid or exemption given.

 

Your ancestor may also have been mentioned in periodicals such as newspapers, government or police gazettes, or be listed in directories.
